When I was young, I loved creating art with every medium I could get my hands on. I was also a musician, a classical violist, and rather than become an artist, I was recruited to major in music instead. Then life got in the way. I did other things career-wise, only returning to my art in middle age.

I knew the value of classical training and studied formally with Living Master Ali Ghassen at the REAL Academy of Art.

Watercolor is my passion
Watercolor is the only medium where light actually glows through the paint rather than sitting on top of it. Because you're working in transparent layers over white paper, you can capture the luminosity of a sunlit canyon or a mountain sky in a way that oil or acrylic simply can't replicate. That quality of light is what drew me to the medium — and it's what I'm always chasing.

About my style
My work is representational — grounded enough in reality that you recognize the place and feel like you could step into it. But I leave certain areas loose on purpose. Detail is a tool rather than the ultimate goal. I use it where it serves the light, and let the paint do what paint does best everywhere else.

What I'm after
When I'm standing in front of a landscape in the American West, there's a moment of genuine awe — at the beauty, scale, the feeling that something much larger than me is happening. My goal is to capture that moment and record it on paper, so that someone standing in front of the painting feels what I felt when I saw the original scene.
